• Going Green Workbooks (K-8) Very cool teacher created work books on sustainability and stewardship. (Pay and free versions available.)

• Interactive website:  Nature Works Everywhere Awesome website by The Nature Conservancy. Includes resources and interactive games and activities that a teacher can display for a whole-class activity and/or student can use individually.

• North American Association for Environmental Education - K-12 lessons Great set of diverse lessons by the largest environmental ed. education association.

• eGFI Dream up the Future Excellent STEM lessons and activities. Many with an environmental bent.

• Resources for Rethinking  A wonderful Canadian project by Leaning for a Sustainable future that offers a bank of K-12 lessons, activities and resources. The lesson bank is search-able by a variety of criteria and all lessons have been created by teachers for teachers.

• Energy Education by the US Department of Energy Tons of lessons and activities related to energy including energy conservation and sustainability. Very good search-able database.

• The Story of Stuff Project Can shopping change the world? This is a project that challenges us to assess how much stuff we really need to survive.

• Green Education Foundation Lesson Clearing House  A wonderful clearinghouse of K-12 standards-based lessons and activities focusing on sustainability.

 

 

Teacher information on sustainability and environmental literacy:

• Excellence in Environmental Education: Guidelines for Learning K-12 Created and published by the North American Association for Environmental Education (www.naaee.net) this is the most relevant document in terms of environmental literacy standards that we have come across to date.

• Developing a Framework for Assessing Environmental Literacy Created by NAAEE, we have used this important and thorough framework to guide the development of the Power2Sustain curriculum and activities. From our research, this framework is currently the most researched-based, measured and effective model of teaching and learning about environmental literacy that we have found.

• Environmental Connections  Published by the Environmental Literacy Council, this guide provides teachers with a balanced view of science-based environmental literacy ideas and resources.

• Definition of Education for Sustainability White paper by the US Partnership for the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development United Nations (2005-2014)

•  Sustainable Table - Linking sustainability of our food systems with energy and environmental sustainability. Great K-12 lessons and activities.
